5 Ways To Make Your Home Greener in 2020
There are many things that you can do to make your home more environmentally friendly or efficient in 2020. Green issues are more important than ever, and every little bit helps when trying to be more earth-friendly at home or work. Here we bring you some straightforward ways of being more earth-conscious at your house:
1-Change Your Incandescent Bulbs to LED
LED bulbs are more energy-efficient, may reduce your electricity bills, have a longer life-span and are free of chemicals like mercury and is some places can be recycled.
2-Make Your Own Reusable Paper Towels
Create your own reusable ‘paper towels’ by buying some lengths of flannel material at a fabric store and cut them up into rectangles or squares. Use them and then keep them in a little pail and wash and reuse. You can also make reusable makeup remover pads by cutting the material up into smaller squares, instead of single-use cotton discs. 3-Make Your Own Compost
While your city may encourage you to give them your kitchen scraps, you can buy a compost bin or drum online and create your own with leaves, grass clippings, fruit, and vegetables. Spread this on your garden beds every year for a healthier yard.
4-Create Your Own Reusable Beeswax Cling Film/Food Wrap
If you are interested in learning how to make your own beeswax food wraps, you can find a great tutorial here from Apartment Therapy. Very easy to do. Or, if you prefer to buy them and support a green company that makes these for you to purchase, there are many places that sell these online. https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-make-your-own-reusable-food-wrap-244307
5-Embrace Natural Cleaning Products
One thing we stopped using a long time ago was the big-box heavily scented laundry detergent or high-foaming dish soap commonly sold at the grocery store. We were not fans of the artificial scent or the SLS’s and parabens commonly found in most grocery store sold brands. One company that is committed to reducing chemicals and artificial ingredients is Seventh Generation. They use plant-based ingredients and are sensitive, skin-friendly and hypoallergenic. They print their ingredients on the label. Their products are cruelty-free, not tested on animals. In terms of their packaging, they state: ‘working hard towards the utilization of 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, and our sustainable packaging embodies our mission to nurture the next seven generations’. They do everything from cleaning products to diapers and sanitary products that are more natural. Now that is something to feel good about.
